		<description>Hi Gary
Yes, I will be posting more information about primary school debating. It is a terrific way to motivate young people in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

I wonder if students today need more complex challenges. You can&#039;t teach everything about debating at the beginning, but by preparing a debate and being involved, you learn different things about yourself and about the process. There is a structure to work within but there is a lot of room for student&#039;s to create something in their own way. There is room for a personality to come through.

Our first debates are In-house debates with one classroom of students. This is less frightening, although we invite their family and friends to come along too.

I would love to hear from anyone else involved with debating.

At this primary school level ( Year 5-7) we have moved to a model of team awards rather than a win-lose model. Following the debates, each team is given a little verbal feedback about their debate and awarded a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Certificate according to the debating guidelines. They are assessed on manner, matter and method but we have moved away from marking out of 100.
