Help your students with their NAPLAN scores
Debating is such a great way to develop the skills for persuasive writing. Verbal development moves faster than written skills for many students. It’s hard to be patient when your brain leaps ahead with ideas and your fingers can’t write them down quickly enough. Some students almost give up at this point or at best are reluctant writers. What I noticed was that the exciting challenge of developing a debate created a lot of motivation.
A chance to be verbal publicly is scary and fun. A little risky!

These are demonstration debates. They were debates given at an Inter-school competition but recorded afterwards to ensure excellent sound quality. While they were made some time ago, they still illustrate the key elements of a debate, overcoming errors, structure and the chairperson role.
One of our chairpersons is a bit of a comedian and he takes it over the top just to illustrate…..what not to do.
He was a spontaneous and effective chairperson and gave us an over the top version for teaching purposes.
